Are you building your community?
Here is an interesting article about some former Google employees leaving to build social networking sites.   This was found on the Mashable and it offers an insight into the importance of building your brand or products community.  This continues to be the secret success for online companies as well as traditional companies.  As Seth Godin describes in his book Tribes, once you have a loy...
Memes
Something that I have come to realize is that there is a whole slew of memes that are interconnected in the area of money and success. But these memes are about keeping us from achieving money and success, instead of helping us obtain it. They are very widespread today, and a huge majority of the population is tainted with them. These memes are gladly accepted and replicated because they allow peo...

I had recently chatted with a Recruitment Director for one of the nation's largest Information Technology firms.  Four months each year she visits college campuses to recruit graduating seniors for her company's junior executive  training  program.  The tenor of her remarks indicated she was discouraged about the attitudes of many people she talked with. "Most days I interview betwe...
Bill Gates – Can he solve the world hunger problem?
Among his many generous efforts to spread good, it looks like one of the richest men is setting his goals on solving world hunger. Recently, Bill Gates called for the second “Green Revolution,” focusing on farmer training and infrastructure in Africa, in addition to new crop varieties and higher yields. “Three-quarters of the world’s poorest people get their food and income by farming s...

So here is a repost of an entry I made back on January of 2005 after assessing my 2004-2005 New Year's Resolution.  I'm glad I stumbled across this (and no...this is not a StumbleUpon plug) because I had completely forgot about it until now.  Currently, my life is quite the same, yet very different at the same time.  I don't drink coffee any more.  You will no longer find me smoking a cigaret...

data-sphere memeSomething that I have come to realize is that there is a whole slew of memes that are interconnected in the area of money and success. But these memes are about keeping us from achieving money and success, instead of helping us obtain it. They are very widespread today, and a huge majority of the population is tainted with them. These memes are gladly accepted and replicated because they allow people to validate their lack of progress in their life goals. I’ve found that some of them are:

❚ Money is bad.
❚ Rich people are evil.
❚ It is spiritual or noble to be poor.
❚ Big entities are bad; underdogs and the little guys are good.
❚ You have to sell your soul to get rich.
❚ Rich people lie, cheat, and steal.
❚ Rich people have lots of money, but they also have many additional
problems. Being rich isn’t worth it.
❚ Money causes good people to go bad.
❚ If you deny yourself now, God will provide true prosperity in
the afterlife.

It might be hard to believe that something a teacher or parent said to us when we were six years old is preventing us from getting a promotion today, but it could very true. We may doubt that a TV show we watched when we were younger could be causing our friendships, relationships, and/or marriages to suffer 20 years later, but that might be the case. We may find it hard to believe to think the books we’ve read or the movies we’ve enjoyed could be causing us to get sick or manifest disease.

But in fact, this is exactly what is happening to millions of people. And most likely you or I could be one of them. As we are exposed to these people, institutions, and environments, we are likely to be infected by thousands of potential memes. Just as exposure to raw sewage can cause us to be infected with germs, microbes, and other nasty things, prolonged exposure to the data-sphere (meaning TV, radio, movies, books, magazines, newspapers, the Internet, and e-mail) will infect us with many nasty viruses of your mind if we’re not careful what we chose and what we do with it.

Memes are as real—and deadly—as biological viruses. Just like computer viruses, memes parasitize the host (our minds), replicate, and spread to others. And just like other viruses, an epidemic of memes is sweeping through our society today.

Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication

Posted By: Geoff on October 14, 2009 in Leadership - Comments: 11 Comments »

Believe it or not, all of us speak to the world without having to say a word through non-verbal communication. Almost every facet of our personality is revealed through our appearance, our body language, our gestures, our facials expressions, our overall demeanor, and our posture and movements.

In our professional and personal lives, we’d like to think we could make friends and influence people if we verbally articulate our message with optimism, enthusiasm, charisma, poise and charm. However did you know that the verbal impact of communication only accounts for 7% of your overall message? The bulk of our communication comes across in our appearance and body language, comprising 55%. Tone, speed and inflection of our voice make up the remaining 38%.

Since non-verbal communication encompasses 93% of our overall message, here is a closer look at what that entails.

It can include your attire, tone of voice, clearing your throat, rubbing your eyes, crossing your arms, tapping your toes, scratching your nose. Eye contact, or lack thereof, gestures, crossed legs, open arms, and the scent we transmit are all forms of non-verbal communication. Through your choice of clothing, hairstyle, glasses, accessories, and makeup if applicable, your appearance also communicates a strong message. The way you dress plays a vital part in how listeners receive you and how others respond to you.

According to author John T. Molloy, who is responsible for Dress for Success, clothes are used as a tool to control how others react to you and treat you.

In an interview situation or during a business meeting, it is very important that you send out the right signals. Always look attentive and interested in the opportunity or conversation – do not slouch in your chair. If you fib, your body language, tone of voice or choice of words will probably give you away. Classic body language giveaways include looking everywhere other than the person you are speaking to and concealing your mouth behind your hands while speaking.

Not only is it important for us to be aware of our own body language, but it is as important to understand what body language means so we can effectively assess and react to others. For example, we may pass a negative judgment on someone because they slouch, fidget, or pout. If we are aware of why we made the judgment, we can filter out our biases and understand what their body language means and what it is telling us about that individual.

The most significant fact you should remember is that non-verbal signals have five times the impact of verbal signals. When the verbal and the non-verbal parts of the message are congruent, the listener believes your message. If they are not congruent, usually your words are saying yes, but your body language is saying no.

Always remember, actions speak louder than words.

dream 300x208 Always Dream Big Enough

There may come a time in your life where you have to make some hard decisions. When you do, half of the people will think you’re crazy and the other half will think you’re right.  You’ll need to make those decisions for yourself and your family when your time comes. I do believe the future is bright and my one hope is that I want anybody that reads to know that inside of you are the seeds of greatness. God blessed you with special gifts that only you have. Learn what those gifts are. I know that you can do anything in the world that you choose to do. You have to focus and always believe in yourself. Never beat yourself up for your past performance, just keep on striving to make your dreams come true. I know you are going to do something great in your future and that you can accomplish all you want and then some. Never give up on yourself. You know that it is better to go to bed tired knowing you give it your all than to go to bed lazy because you are striving for nothing. Keep on dreaming, it’s worth it. You are on your way to being the best. You will go beyond where you thought you could. I am proud of you for standing up against mediocrity and claiming yourself to be A DREAMER!! Yes, that is what you are and never ever forget it. Don’t let the fog take it away from you.

You’re the real deal my friend.

May God bless you and always be there for you.

The 45 Year Plan

Posted By: Geoff on October 11, 2009 in Finance - Comments: 3 Comments »

The 45 Year PlanHave you ever heard about “The 45 Year Plan”?  The first time I heard of it was about a year ago.  I was just getting started in Network Marketing.

It’s about a graph/report that was done by the U.S. government.  I believe it was the Department Of Labor.  I know of many people in the business that show “The 45 Year Plan” to their prospects.

Today I’m going to explain it to you.  This information will blow you away!

Check this out…here’s what the report shows.  This is about your future and mine.

Most people, about 95% of men and women in this country, work about 45 years of their lives.  Usually, this takes place between the ages of 20-65….give or take.  Most people start working after high school/college, up to the time they retire.

They spend 45 years of their lives at various jobs, or they’re self employed.  Think about that.

These people (the 95%ers) are your families… your relatives…your neighbors…and your co-workers.  I knew I HAD to change and I did!  Do you want to spend so much time working?

40 hours per week x 50 weeks per year= 2000 hrs./year
(52 weeks in a year…I’m taking out 2 weeks for vacation)
2000 hours x 45 years= 90,000 hours

This means most of us can expect to spend roughly 90,000 hours of our lives working…can you believe that?  Most people just trade time for money…and the cost of living keeps going up 6-10% each year!

And that’s not all.  When these people retire (the 95%ers), they can expect to live on one-half to one-third of their income.  Is that depressing or what?  Don’t be one of them!  I used to be a 95%er, now I’m a 5%er.  Hopefully you’re on the same path.

If you’re not already involved, get involved in Network Marketing.  There is a 2-5 year plan to help someone become job-optional…you won’t have to ‘work’ anymore!  A 2-5 year plan to make more money than you ever have.  A 2-5 year plan to create a REAL residual income!

Remember this equation…”Money + Time= FREEDOM”!
